Awake

Standard

Tired
weary
waiting for bedtime.
In bed waiting
hoping
expecting
But knowing sleep won’t come
One eye on the clock
But Trying not to watch the night slip away
Rising slowly like waves
the panic
another night without sleep
Rising faster
And faster
Needing to get up
out of the room
take a deep breath
Calm down
Walking
up and down the stairs
The body weary
The mind worn out
Back in bed
One eye on the clock
Trying not to watch the minutes pass by
Falling
I can’t be falling
I’m in bed
Feel like I’m falling
Have to sit up
Get up
Hold on
Take a deep breath
Calm down
In bed it’s too hot
Kick the covers off
Too cold
pull the covers up
Too hot
Can’t breathe
Can’t catch a breath
Open the window.
Calm down
Breathe
Exhausted
Curl up
Next to the sleeping child
Listen to his breathing
Calm
One eye on the clock
Trying not to watch the night run out
Waiting for the alarm.
